The exhibition told the story of Cartier design from the early days of the Modern Style to the eve of the Second World War. The exhibition catalog was the result of detailed research by Judy Rudoe, distinguished curator at the British Museum, and Stewart Johnson, of the Met's Department of Design. The deals New York exhibition ran for four months and attracted over 420,000 visitors. It was continued at the Field Museum in Chicago the following year.
